“I think it is part of the societal programming that women receive. We get the message that men should be sexually attracted to us, and if they are not, there is something inherently wrong with us, that we are lesser human beings. I suspect I am not the only female who almost gets envious when she sees attention lavished on other women who are considered more beautiful, even if the attention is unwelcome.” —The Street Harassment Experience in a Fat Body
Great article. It’s written by a fat disabled woman who admits she’s almost envious of women who get catcalled or honked at, because at least their bodies are being “approved of” by the Body Police. (via stfuconservatives)
i’m reading the comments posted to the original article and it’s truly disheartening. i don’t agree with some of the views, and i think others missed the point entirely, but reading about how women have to cater to their environment, that the environment is the demander and women the responder, makes me extremely uncomfortable. :(
i could go on and on about this issue and i kind of almost tried, but thought better of it.
- i have a really bad shorts tan
- i just made really good blended iced coffee (shut up, it’s hard)
- my package has been in san diego since saturday, and its expected delivery date is thursday. i don’t understand why it takes four days to navigate through the city h8 u USPS.
- also i only bought a half slip for that black crochet dress and walked around with a black bra on top and my mom totally (unjokingly) approved.
